French

The French course aims to develop the pupils’ confidence in the four language skills

of listening, speaking, reading and writing in a range of situations and contexts by:

• learning new words and their correct pronunciation

• learning how a language works and how to manipulate it

• listening to the teacher and to recordings and videos of native speakers

• taking part in whole-class, paired and group activities

• reading and working out the meaning of a variety of texts using a wordlist or a

dictionary

• producing pieces of writing and talking and challenging themselves by

applying linguistic knowledge and skills in new purposes and in new contexts as well

as using their imagination to express thoughts, ideas, experiences and feelings.

Throughout the course, pupils learn to appreciate the richness and diversity of other

cultures, to recognise that there are different ways of seeing the world and to

develop an international outlook.
