What time does the school day start and finish? What are the period times?
Registration starts at 8.45am, with Period 1 starting at 8.55am.
School finishes at 3.40pm at the end of Period 7, Monday to Thursday. On a Friday, school finishes at 12.30pm.

What happens if my child is late?
If your child arrives late to school, they must report to the school office first to sign in before attending their class.
Once they have signed in, they should go quickly to their class.
It is compulsory for pupils arriving late to sign in at the school office.
How do I report an absence?
Please phone the school office on 01408 633451 to report your child's absence, or send a text message to the school informing us of their absence.

You should contact your child's Pastoral Teacher - either Mrs Metzler or Mrs Murdoch.

What do I need to bring on my first day?
Pupils should bring:
🎒 A school bag
✏️ A pen or pencil — this is essential
💻 Their Chromebook, if they already have one
🔌 Their Chromebook charger if required
👟 PE kit if they have PE that day
📏 Any other equipment they may need for particular classes, such as a ruler or rubber
Pupils will be provided with a Chromebook if they do not already have one.
We recommend that pupils bring their Chromebook charger with them throughout the day so that they can charge their device if needed.

What PE kit does my child need?
Pupils should bring a change of:

A spare pair of shoes is particularly useful if pupils' shoes become wet during the school day.
Pupils have PE regularly, often around three times per week, and lockers are available for storing PE kits.
Do pupils need stationery?
Yes. All pupils should have a pen or pencil every day.
It is also useful to have basic equipment such as a ruler and rubber.
Will my child have a locker?
Lockers are available for pupils for a £10 deposit.
If your child would like a locker, please speak to the school office.
Do pupils need to bring money to school?
Pupils may need money if they wish to purchase food or drinks from the school canteen or elsewhere.

Can pupils bring a packed lunch?
Yes. Pupils are welcome to bring a packed lunch and can eat this in the school canteen.

What subjects will my child study in S1?
In S1 and S2, pupils study a Broad General Education (BGE). This gives pupils the opportunity to experience a wide range of subjects, including:
Maths
English
French
History
Geography
Woodwork
Metalwork
Art & Design
Music
Creative Industries
Science
ICT/Computer Skills
Pupils also have three periods of PE and one period of PSE each week.
After S2, pupils choose their subjects for S3 onwards. Maths, English, PSE and PE remain compulsory, alongside eight chosen subjects.
How does homework work?
Homework is given from time to time across a variety of subjects. There is no set homework timetable, so teachers will set homework when appropriate.
Pupils are responsible for remembering what homework they have been given and when it is due. Homework will usually be posted on Google Classroom, where pupils can also view the details and deadline.
If homework is not handed in by the deadline, pupils will normally be given a 24-hour extension to complete it.
If it is still not completed after this extension, parents/carers will usually receive a text message for information, and the pupil will be asked to attend at lunchtime to complete the homework.
How will I know how my child is getting on?
Throughout the year, each year group will have:
A Parents' Evening
A full written report
A progress report

When are Parents' Evenings and school reports?

School reports will be emailed to parents/carers.
Parents' Evenings take place in the school assembly hall and canteen.
What support is available if my child is struggling?
Mrs Ady Hays is our Principal Teacher of Support.
If you have concerns about your child's learning, wellbeing or additional support needs, please contact Mrs Hays through the school office on 01408 633451.
Pupils may also be provided with alternative assessment arrangements where appropriate when sitting exams. If you feel your child may require additional arrangements, please speak to Mrs Hays or a member of the School Depute, Mr Craig Phillips, so that these can be discussed and put in place where appropriate.
What should I do if my child has been bullied or is worried about something?
Please contact the school as soon as possible if your child is experiencing bullying or is worried about something.
You can contact the school office, or speak directly to your child's Pastoral Teacher, who will be able to provide support and help you with the next steps.
What school transport/buses are available?
School buses are available from all areas served by the school.
When enrolling at the school, transport arrangements will be organised and you will be informed of which bus your child should use, where to catch it and the relevant times.
Late buses are sometimes available on Mondays and Tuesdays to support pupils attending study support and extracurricular activities.

How can my child get involved in music, sport and other activities?
Alongside their normal classes, pupils have the opportunity to take part in a range of lunchtime and after-school activities, including music, drama, sport and other extracurricular groups.
