The Sutherland Schools Pipe Band, established in 1984, brings together learners from across the Sutherland area—including Golspie, Brora, Helmsdale, Rogart, Lairg, Rosehall, and Invershin—for a shared passion: music, tradition, and community performance Facebook.
Our Tutors & Practices
Scott Murray (Chanter, Pipes, Whistle) and Roy Hamilton (Drumming) lead the band. Practices are held every Wednesday after school in the Music Department.
This reliable weekly setup supports steady progress and helps nurture the band’s strong musical culture.
Community Performances
Performing throughout the Sutherland area, the band enriches local events with their evocative Highland sound. From ceilidhs to community gatherings, the band showcases the region’s musical heritage with pride.
A Special Anniversary
In September 2024, the band celebrated its 40th anniversary with a public performance and ceilidh in Lairg. They premiered a specially composed tune, “Sutherland Schools Pipe Band Turns 40,” highlighting both reflection and forward momentum. This milestone was marked by stirring performances alongside local bands—including the Wick Royal British Legion Scotland Band and the Dornoch Pipe Band Northern Times.
